The More You Know

The Bendigo Tulip Display filled Pall Mall with colour and life. From 43,000 tulips by day to Bloom After Dark lights by night, it was pure spring magic.
The city streets of Bendigo were once again transformed into a living rainbow of 43,000 tulips this September, as the much-loved Bendigo Annual Tulip Display brightened Pall Mall, Rosalind Park, and the Conservatory Gardens. Running from mid-September through early October, this free event has become a highlight of Bendigo’s spring calendar and a photographer’s dream.

First launched in 2004 during Bendigo’s drought years, tulips were chosen for their beauty and resilience. Today, the display has become a symbol of community, hope, and the new season ahead. Visitors wandered the heritage-lined streets, marveling at tulips of every size and shade, from soft pastels to bold reds, yellows, and purples.

This year also featured the magical Bloom After Dark activation. Every evening from September 19 to October 5, the Conservatory Gardens came alive with illuminated tulip beds, glowing flower installations, and even playful Bloom Gnomes hidden throughout the park. The highlight was a dazzling projection that lit up the side of the Old Post Office, creating a nighttime wonderland for families, photographers, and couples alike.

“It feels like stepping into a storybook garden,” one visitor shared. “You see it one way by day and then it transforms at night—it’s breathtaking.”
The tulip display was also the crown jewel of Bendigo’s Bloom spring program, which included floral spaces like the Tram Café, the Harvest Moon Festival, and the Bloomin’ Good Market. Together, these events created a spring celebration that drew locals and visitors from across Victoria.
