The Bendigo Gift Running Race

The More You Know

Athletes, officials, and fans marked Saturday, March 11 as the day the Bendigo Gift athletics carnival was run. Racing was held throughout the afternoon and under lights at the Bendigo Regional Athletics Complex in Flora Hill’s Retreat Road. The event was supported by the City of Greater Bendigo and various sponsors to ensure the Gift tradition kept rolling. The Bendigo Thousand was first contested in 1947 and had been part of the city’s sporting landscape for more than 70 years. The Victorian Athletic League, home of professional running in the state, was determined that the Bendigo Gift would continue, and they delivered and supported the event with the City of Greater Bendigo. The races included 70m Men’s, 70m Women’s, 100m Under-14 Mixed, 100m Under-18 Boys and Girls, 100m Masters, Men’s Gift, Women’s Gift, 300m Masters (35+), 400m Restricted InterSport Series, 550m Open, 800m Masters 45+, and 1600m Open. The event was free of charge for spectators to attend.
